PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF baseball team found its offense on Saturday, pounding out 23 hits, nine extra base hits and three home runs in a doubleheader sweep of West Georgia to open Gulf South Conference play at Jim Spooner Field.

UWF (4-4, 2-0) fell behind in the first inning of each game only to rally with four runs in the home half both times to regain momentum. The Argos won the first game 10-7 and doubled-up the Wolves in the nightcap, 8-4.

Cullan O'Shea hit a pair of home runs and drove in four runs as he reached base in seven of nine plate appearances. Jadon Fryman and Trent Jeffcoat each had a team-high four hits on the afternoon, with Jeffcoat extending his hitting streak to eight games.

"It was good to get the offense going early and getting guy on base was key," UWF head coach Mike Jeffcoat said. "When the strikeouts are down and the walks are up, that's going to led to more runs and offensive productivity. That's what we have to keep doing."

On the mound, starters Josh Pahlad (1-2) and Salvatore Ferro (1-0) each picked up wins, with Jacob Estes closing the door in both games to earn his first two saves of the season.

UWG (5-4, 0-2) saw its losing streak extend to four games. Davis Schwartz and Brody Wortham has four hits each to lead the Wolves, while Schwartz drove in five runs.

GAME ONE | UWF 10-7
UWG scratched a run across in the first inning before UWF answered with four to grab a 4-1 lead. After Jeffcoat led off with a bunt single and moved to third following a walk to Mark Townsend, Alden Davis doubled to left center for the first two Argo runs. Jason Roberts tripled to score Townsend and then scored on a bases loaded hit batter to True Fontenot.

O'Shea led off the second with a mammoth shot down the right field line for a 5-1 lead. Two innings later, Jeffcoat bunted his way on and O'Shea walked to set up Davis who hit his second homer of the season to left as the Argos grabbed a 8-1 lead. It moved to 9-1 an inning later when O'Shea rifled a ball back up the middle to score pinch runner Brooks Mitchell.

UWG didn't go away and used a pair of 3-run innings in the sixth and seventh to cut into the margin. Schwartz's 3-run shot to center in the seventh made it a 9-7 game.

Jack Schad had a bunt RBI in the eighth to give UWF a 3-run cushion.

The Argos belted out 15 hits with seven of those going for extra bases – both were season-high totals.

Estes struck out two of the six batters he faced in earning the save. Pahlad earned the win with six innings of work where he struck out a season-high seven.

GAME TWO | UWF 8-4

Josh Prizina led off the fourth with a double and came home four batters later on a Mark Townsend single, extending the UWF lead to 7-2.

UWG's Wortham hit a 2-run homer in the fifth to trim the margin to 7-4.
