PENSACOLA, Fla.- The UWF Men's Basketball fell to the Lee Flames 74-64. West Florida is now 17-9 overall and 11-8 in the Gulf South Conference. Four Argos finished the night in double figures with
David Petit-Homme having a team high 12 points.
The first half was evenly matched between the two teams with West Florida going 11-19 from the field on 57 percent shooting. The Flames were 13-22 through the first 20 minutes of action on 59 percent shooting. West Florida was able to knock down three three-pointers during the half and take a 31-27 lead into halftime.
During the second half Lee had complete control of the game and went 17-30 from the field on 56 percent shooting. The Flames made four three-pointers and were 9-10 from the free throw line. Quay Kennedy had a team high 39 points and five rebounds through 35 minutes.
"I just thought they out toughed us, they played harder and better than we did," said Head Coach
Jeff Burkhamer. "Kennedy was terrific and played like an all-league player. We made too many mistakes to beat a good team"
The Argos shot 44 percent from the field during the second half after going 11-25 from the field. West Florida found success with three-pointers going 4-6.
Wendell Matthews and
Daniel Sofield had 11 points each, with
LaTrell Tate rounding out the double figure scoring with 10 points.
Overall UWF was 22-44 from the field at an even 50 percent shooting. West Florida made seven three-pointers compared to the Flames four.
West Florida will have a quick turnaround as they prepare for the final regular season conference game against the University of West Georgia on Wednesday, Feb.23 at the UWF Field House.
Tipoff against UWG is set for 7:30 P.M.
