PENSACOLA, Fla.- The University of West Florida Men's Basketball fell to the University of  West Georgia Wolves 81-83, in the final conference game of the season. The Argos are now (17-10, 11-9 Gulf South Conference).
 
UWF got off to a quick start in the first half and never looked back. By halftime three Argos were in double figures. Daniel Sofield had a team high 14 points, followed by Wendell Matthews with 12 and Brandon Burford with 10. The Argos fast paced offense proved to be too much for the Wolves to handle. As a team West Florida was 19-29 from the field on 65 percent shooting. UWF outrebounded UWG 17-9 during the first 20 minutes of action.
 
West Georgia was 14-28 from the field on 50 percent shooting during the first half. At halftime West Florida led 50-35.

"It was a great first half, I thought we played really well, '' said Head Coach Jeff Burkhamer. "We made shots and really defended well in the first half. In the second half it flipped, they guarded better and we didn't play as well offensively. I thought their execution down the stretch was better than ours and they were able to finish plays."
 
During the second half the roles were reversed as West Georgia controlled the tempo and saw their shots start to fall. The Wolves tied the game and took the lead late in the second half and the Argos were unable to stop the Wolves offense. UWG  had a 64 percent team field goal percentage after going 20-31 from the field. The Wolves made five three-pointers during the second half. UWF went 11-27 from the field on 40 percent shooting.
 
Overall West Florida was 30-56 from the field and made eight three-pointers. West Georgia was 34-59 from the field knocking down seven three-pointers. Both teams had 28 rebounds on the night. Sofield finished the night as the team's leading scorer with 24 points. Burford and Matthews had 17 and 15 points respectively. LaTrell Tate had 12 points and a team high five rebounds.
 
Up next the UWF Men's Basketball team will host the Spring Hill College Badgers on Feb.25 at the UWF Field House.
