PENSACOLA, Fla.- The University of West Florida Men's Basketball team cruised past the Spring Hill College Badgers 89-76 on senior night. West Florida improved their overall record to 18-10 and remained 11-9 in the Gulf South Conference.
"Offensively we were really good, we really shared the ball and had 29 assists on 38 baskets which is really good,' said Head Coach Jeff Burkhamer. " I'm happy for our guys, a lot of guys got to play and a lot of guys were able to score and I thought in the first half we were terrific."
During the first half UWF went 22-30 from the field on 73 percent shooting, a season high field goal percentage. The Badgers had no answer to the Argos efficient shooting. By halftime
Daniel Sofield was up to 18 points.
West Florida was 5-11 from the three point line for a 45 percent three-point field goal percentage. The Argos had six steals and four blocks at the half and held Spring Hill to 31 points going into halftime. The Badgers were 12-31 from the field on 38 percent shooting.
During the second half 11 Argos stepped on to the court and 10 scored at least three points. As a team West Florida was 16-30 from the field on 53 percent shooting. Five Argos finished the night in double figures with Sofield having 20 points.
Wendell Matthews added 14 points of his own, while Jackson Henningifeld,
Brandon Burford and
LaTrell Tate each had 11.
Overall UWF had 29 team assists and went 38-60 from the field, for a team field goal percentage of 63 percent. 22 points came from the West Florida bench. The Argos made eight three-pointers and had a 40 percent three-point field goal percentage.
Jejuan Weatherspoon led the team in rebounds with seven.
Up next the University of West Florida Men's Basketball team will play in the first round of the Gulf South Conference Basketball tournament on Tuesday, March 1.
