In Saturday's completed game, UWF improved to 8-5 overall and 6-1 in Gulf South Conference action with a solid offensive performance, scoring three runs in the first, fifth and 12th innings.
GAME ONE
UWF jumped on CBU starter Travis Cole in the first with five-consecutive singles, including bunts from
Trent Jeffcoat and
Mark Townsend, to start the contest. The Argos sent nine batters to the plate in the frame and led 3-0 after RBIs from
Alden Davis and
Tyler Dowdy, and an unearned run in the aftermath of Townsend's bunt.
Dean Hotz opened the fourth inning with a single and worked his way around the bases on a stolen base and a groundout, before scoring on
Cullan O'Shea's groundout in the hole on the right side of the infield.
The Argos pushed three more runs across in the fifth with no outs. Dowdy started things off with a single and then scored from first on a Townsend triple down the right field line.
Chris Johnson and
Preston Moore followed with RBI singles to push the lead to 7-0.
Josh Pahlad, meanwhile, was locked in early on, retiring the first 10 batters before the Bucs got their first hit. They finally put a rally together in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four runs on five hits.
Townsend led off the seventh with a home run to straight-away center, clearing the 15-foot-high wall for his first long ball of the season. The Bucs batted back and scored four in the home-half of the seventh to tie it at 8-8.
In the 11th, O'Shea's sacrifice fly scored Hotz for the go-ahead run. But the Bucs got a run back in the bottom half on a Van True RBI double.
Townsend was up to the task to start the 12th, laying down a sac bunt that was thrown away, allowing pinch runner
Brady Browning to score from second.
Preston Moore followed two batters later with a 2-run blast to left to add some insurance runs for the Argos.
Chase Wilkerson (2-0) earned the win with one inning of relief and
Dilan Lawson earned his third-consecutive save, getting the final two outs with the bases loaded.

UWF increased its lead to 3-1 in the seventh on back-to-back doubles from Jeffcoat and O'Shea. Again the Bucs rallied and scored two to tie it at 3 before play was suspended as the Argos came to the plate in the eighth.
