Kevin Johnson announced as Pitching Coordinator for Argos baseball

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Kevin Johnson has been promoted to pitching coordinator for the University of West Florida baseball team. He has served as a pitching coach for the program since 2022.

Johnson is an elite coach who has earned several championships and awards throughout his career. The Pensacola native is a member of the West Florida High School Hall of Fame and attended the University of West Florida during his college career.

After college, he spent six seasons playing professional ball. In 2010, he was a part of the Pensacola Pelicans, an American Association team. Johnson went on to be drafted by the Los Angeles Angels and spent several seasons playing for their affiliates before concluding his time as an athlete with the Normal Cornbelters in the Frontier League.

Johnson began his coaching career as Coastal Alabama CC North's Assistant Head Coach from 2019 to 2021. Following his time at Coastal, he became a pitching coach at UWF.

During his time with the Argos, Johnson helped the pitching staff of the 2025 and 2026 South Regional Championship-winning teams. He also coached the GSC Conference Championship-winning teams in 2023, 2024, and 2026.

In 2023, 2024, and 2026, he led his athletes to earn a spot in the Top 10 ERA in NCAA Division II baseball. He was elected as part of the #1 Pitching Staff in the Gulf South Conference for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 seasons. Throughout his entire career, he has coached four All-American players and three MLB draftees.

Johnson is committed to earning the trust of his players and creating a winning culture. He is dedicated to passing on lessons and values that baseball gifted him to the next generation. The University of West Florida Athletics Department looks forward to Johnson utilizing his leadership and management skills to continue a tradition of excellence for Argo baseball.
