MOBILE, Ala. –
Cullan O'Shea and
Josh Prizina each hit a home run but it wasn't enough as the UWF baseball team fell to Spring Hill, 6-3, at Stan Galle Field on Tuesday.
UWF (20-17) finished with six hits and drew a pair of walks but struck out nine times. In addition to the two long balls,
Brady Browning led the Argonauts with a pair of hits.
The Argos used eight pitchers, with only
Salvatore Ferro going longer than an inning and none facing more than six batters or surpassing 20 pitches.
Josh Pahlad (2-6) was credited with the loss after allowing a run on two hits in the third inning. UWF committed a season-high four errors.
SHC (28-11) collected eight hits and scored three unearned runs in getting head coach Frank Sims his 1,000th career victory. Micah Morgan (2-0) threw seven innings and struck out seven while scattering six hits for the win.
The home team got on the board first with a Grayson Williams RBI double in the third. An inning later, Cam Brock drew a bases-loaded walk and Daniel Seres drove in Luke Sweeney on a fielder's choice groundout.
The Badgers also hit two home runs for their final three runs. Morgan hit his 15th in the fifth and Grant Akridge hit a 2-run shot an inning later to extend their lead to 6-1.
O'Shea's solo blast in the sixth put the Argos on the board. It was the Mobile native's ninth of the year and 23rd in three seasons at UWF, tying Stephen Jackson for the career record.
The Argonauts got two back in the seventh when Prizina hit a 2-run pinch hit homer. It was his sixth of the season.
But the Badgers held the Argos to just one base runner in the final 2.1 innings.
UWF will return to Jim Spooner Field this weekend, hosting Valdosta State (26-11) for a 3-game series Friday and Saturday. Friday's game will start at 6 p.m. and Saturday's Senior Day/Military Appreciation Day doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
