MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The 20th-ranked UWF baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Montevallo at Bob Reisner Stadium on Saturday.
UM (26-8, 11-6 Gulf South) had five extra base hits and three home runs in sweeping the day, 10-4 and 7-2.
GAME ONE
In the first game, the Falcons led 4-3 after five innings. UM scored six runs in the sixth with the big play coming on a grand slam by Ben Teel that stretched the lead to 10-3.
Zach Toth (5-0) got the win in two innings of relief and Connor Phelan earned his third save of the season.
UWF (17-13, 12-6) had eight hits and drew six walks while leaving 10 runners on base.
Jadon Fryman had a season high three hits while driving in two and scoring once.
Salvatore Ferro (4-2) struck out six in 5.1 innings but allowed six earned runs on eight hits.
GAME TWO
In the evening contest, UM scored twice in the first on a pair of base hits.
UWF came back in the second and cut into the lead on a
Dean Hotz RBI single to left. The Falcons answered with a run in the bottom half with a 2-out RBI single.
In the third,
Cullan O'Shea sent a solo shot over the wall in center to make it a 3-2 game. Again, UM got the run back in their at-bat, scoring on a Riley Cain groundout.
UM got a sacrifice fly in the fourth and a 2-run home run in the sixth to close out the scoring.
Logan Samuels (3-0) picked up the victory with 4.1 innings of the seven inning contest.
Josh Pahlad (2-5) suffered the loss as he allowed five runs on eight hits.
UWF will return to play on Tuesday when it travels to Dahlonega, Georgia to face North Georgia in a 2-game series.
