PENSACOLA, Fla.- It was another dominant performance for the West Florida Men's Tennis Team as they swept their second match of the weekend against Shorter on Senior Day. The Argonauts improve to 16-4 overall and undefeated in GSC play with a 9-0 record.
At home this season, West Florida had a perfect 13-0 record as they enter into their last regular season matches of the season.
The Argonauts once again swept from three doubles positions to secure the lone point.
Lluis Miralles Miro and
Salvador Bandeira teamed up from the No. 2 positions, winning their match 6-1.
Bernardo Costa and
Pedro Cordeiro dominated as the No. 3 pair, being victorious 6-1. This improves their doubles record to 16-2 as the No. 3 pair and they are 8-0 in conference play.
Facundo Bermejo and his partner
Tomas Descarrega won their match 6-3 as the No. 1 pair. As a duo, Bermejo and Descarrega are 33
rd in the nation based on the latest ITA Poll and they are 12-3 on the season.
In between doubles and singles play, the Argonauts recognized their six seniors,
Juan Cabrera,
Alan Benitez,
Salvador Bandeira,
Pedro Cordeiro,
Lluis Miralles Miro, and
Luke Racine.
The Argonauts had the momentum heading into singles play and continued their success, sweeping the Hawks from all six positions.
From the top of the lineup,
Juan Cabrera dominated in his usual fashion from the No. 1 position, winning his match 6-3, 7-5. This improves his overall record to 16-2 and 8-0 in GSC play on the season. Cordeiro would get the next point, dominating his match 6-0, 6-2 from No. 3 position. Bandeira would round out the top of the lineup, being victorious from the No. 2 position 6-2, 6-3.
From the bottom of the lineup, Miro won his match 6-0, 6-1 from the No. 4 position.
Alan Benitez swept both sets 6-0, 6-0 from the No. 5 position.
Luke Racine finished it off for the Argonauts winning his match 6-2, 6-0 from the No. 6 position to defeat the Hawks.
The Argonauts will travel to face Saint Leo, Florida Southern, and Hawaii Pacific next weekend for their last regular season matches before postseason play.
