PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF men's basketball head coach
Jeff Burkhamer has announced the signing of Channick Nkoma to a scholarship beginning this fall.
Nkoma is a native of Libreville, Gabon in central Africa and spent last season at Kutztown (Pa.) University.
The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 7.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while shooting 52 percent for the Golden Bears. He finished with 11 double-figure scoring games, six double-figure rebound performances and recorded five double-doubles.
"Channick is a big post player that can score and rebound, and will provide a physical presence inside for us," Burkhamer said. "He is a seasoned player with two seasons of college experience and will come to UWF fully prepared to compete in the Gulf South Conference. He is very good at blocking and changing shots, is an excellent rebounder and is explosive to the rim. He is a skilled post that we need to compete in our league."
Nkoma played his first year at Harcum College in 2019-20. He averaged 6.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game over 31 contests for the junior college in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. He shot 54 percent from the floor on a Bears team that went 26-5 and averaged 101 points per game.
"Channick gives us another quality big man," Burkhamer added. "He comes in with college game experience and knows what it takes to play at this level. He needs to be an immediate impact player for us on both ends of the floor."
Nkoma has two seasons of eligibility remaining and is planning to major in Computer Science. He was an NJCAA All-Academic Second Team honoree as a freshman.
