Columbus, GA. --- The University of West Florida women's soccer team and the newly Division I Queens University of Charlotte were neck-and-neck during all minutes of play, resulting in a 0-0 tie.
Â
The Argos were aggressive to begin the match as
Mya Swinton received the first shot on goal in the bottom center that was saved to be followed by a corner kick within the first 12:00 minutes. That would be the only action in the first half as each team battled to protect their own net.
Â
The Argos tried to take advantage offensively to begin the second half as Swinton and
Blair Cowan took a shot each but could not fall. Within seconds of each other,
Bailey Erwig continues to attack to get a shot off followed by
Alyssa Wilson which was saved by Royals goalkeeper.
Â
Midfielders Swinton, Cowan, and
Manami Okada hit two shots apiece and recorded over 70 minutes in this afternoon's game. Both of Cowan's shots were on goal but saved by goalkeeper Erica Turner.
Â
Goalkeeper
Maciah Lipsey played all 90 minutes and recorded five saves.
Â
"Very evenly matched game between two hard working teams.," said coach
Joe Bartlinski. "Would have like to come out with a victory, but the tie was probably fair."
Â
The Argos and the Royals each had eight shots with five on target with the Royals having a slight 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Â
"We learned a lot playing against two quality opponents in the first weekend and we will use this upcoming week to prepare for next two matches."
Â
Next up, the Argos will return to their home ground at UWF Soccer Complex to take on Eckerd Friday, Sep. 2 at 5 p.m. and Florida Southern Sunday, Sep. 4 at 12:30 p.m.
