Pensacola, Fla. --- Blair Cowan scored her second hat trick of the season and
Manami Okada and
Hailey Bastian each scored one apiece to breeze past the Warhawks and grab their second largest conference win in a home matchup Friday evening.
Â
The Argos (8-2-1 overall, 6-1 GSC) got their earliest goal in the conference so far with a first season goal from Bastian who also recorded her first start of the season. Seconds shy of the seven-minute mark,
Mya Swinton took the ball out wide with pace and passed it off to Cowan who was running up the middle and quickly became surrounded by Warhawk (1-7 overall, 1-4 GSC) defenders to leave
Hailey Bastian wide open on the backside who was able to drive it in the net past the goalkeeper.
Â
Quick movement from the Argos kept them at an advantage and would continue to put the Warhawks out of defensive shape. The Argos took advantage of it as
Ahnalie Layman saw an opening in the box and crossed to Okada who was able to score a header in the top right corner. This is Okada's second goal in the season off a header.
Â
The Argos kept the pressure on the Warhawks and figured out the wide spaces were the open spaces. The third goal was repeated just like the first, except
Kileigh Whited would beat a defender and drive down the flank to find Okada inside who unselfishly passed it off to Cowan who scored her first goal of the night and seventh goal of the season – but it would not stop there for senior.
Â
Just four minutes after, Cowan would sink another shot from 25 yards out that hit perfectly in the top corner to be untouchable. Just seconds before, freshman
Katie Lewellyan entered the game and made her presence known. Playing in the middle, she received her first touches of the game and passed it off to Cowan to earn her first career assist.
Â
The Argos entered the second half with the largest lead of the season at 4-0.
Less than 10 minutes into the half, Swinton found herself reaching the goal line to just pass it around the defender to Cowan who one-touched it right in the open netting to earn her second hat trick of the season and Swinton earning her second assist of the game. Cowan tallied seven points throughout the game with three goals and one assist.
"We've put in a lot of work and everything clicked for us and I think we have a bright future ahead if we keep working hard," said Cowan.
The Argos outshot the Warhawks 22-3 and kept the opponents to zero shots on goal. The Argos earned 11 corner kicks.
