ATLANTA, Ga.- In their first day of competition in "The Peach State," the West Florida Swimming and Diving dropped a dual meet to Division I schools Georgia Tech (234-66) and Queens (190-104) at the McAuley Aquatic Center on Friday.
The Argonauts put up quite a fight from the start as the 200 medley relay team made up of
Nina Imboden,
Stefanie Markwardt,
Brooke Dorr, and
Aimee Patterson claimed sixth with a time of 1:46.79. In the 1650 free, the Argos placed three in the top-ten with Sophia Kendzior coming in sixth in 17:17.98, followed by
Shannah Dillman with 17:19.35 and
Tori Johnston rounding out the eighth spot (18:03.55).
Standout Imboden clinched a top-three spot in the 100 back as she touched the wall in 56.84. In the 100 breast, UWF placed four in the top-ten with Markwardt in seventh with 1:06.00 and Brooke Similia in eighth (1:09.11).
Ellie Rothfuss and
Mikayla Puckett finished ninth (1:09.41) and tenth (1:10.45), respectively.
With the Argonaut's first place finish of the day, Imboden championed the 200 back as she touched the wall in 2:00.87. Markwardt came in fourth in the 100 fly (55.44) and Dorr finished eighth (58.46).
In the diving well, the Argonauts made quite a splash on the 1-meter boards with
Jade Fontenelle clinching fourth place with a score of 269.95,
Michelle Mejia came in shortly behind with 243.30 points and
Daniela Reyes coming in sixth with 252.90 points. On the 3-meter boards, Mejia had a top-three finish as she rounded out the third spot with 272.70 points. Adrianna Mieses-Sanchez came in fourth on the board with 271.73 points. Reyes and Fontenelle finished fifth (258.00) and sixth (257.03), respectively.
To close out the night, UWF touched fourth in the 200 free relay composed of Patterson, Dorr,
Morgan Despres, and Markwardt.
The Argonauts will be back in Atlanta, Ga. tomorrow for day two of competition at the WoodPEC Aquatic Center to square off against No. 14 Delta State and Emory starting at 10:00 a.m. (EST), 9:00 a.m. (CST).
