UWF Pulls Away From West Georgia For Ninth-Consecutive Victory

Zoe Piller led the Argos with 24 points and 10 rebounds

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Zoe Piller led UWF with 24 points and scored nine in the final period to help the Argonauts defeat West Georgia, 71-57, at the UWF Field House on Wednesday.

Piller made her first six baskets and finished 9-of-13 while pulling down 10 rebounds. Jaclyn Jarnot had 18 points and 10 boards, while Haylee Luttrell made five 3-pointers on her way to a 17-point night.

The guard trio of Jaden Langford, Moriah Taylor and Maddie Griffon combined for 18 assists and two turnovers.

UWF improved to 14-5 on the season and extended its winning streak to nine games. The Argos are in third place in the Gulf South Conference with a 14-3 record. They will step out of league play on Saturday at 2 p.m. for a game at Spring Hill in Mobile, Alabama.

But on Wednesday, UWF used a strong effort late in the first half to create some distance with UWG. After the Wolves pulled within one on a Peace Okeke bucket with 4:45 left in the half, the Argos responded with a Griffon basket and then fast break scores from Luttrell and Jarnot for a 7-0 run and a 35-27 lead.

UWF went on a 9-0 run in the third to stretch the advantage to 52-37. The Wolves never got closer than 11 the rest of the way.

"We didn't have a great shooting night from the perimeter and I thought we were streaky," UWF head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "I told the team at halftime we were going to have to fight for rebounds if we missed the shot and we did that."

UWF outrebounded its 18-consecutive opponent and scored 26 second chance points off 22 offensive boards.

Okeke led UWG (7-12, 6-10) with 21 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.
