"The swimmers and divers did a nice job today of competing," stated head coach Philip Kraus. "We are in the middle of heavy training so being at our best was not an expectation, yet we did have some good in season swims and dives, including an NCAA qualifying score on 1-meter by freshman, Nelson."
On the boards, West Florida really got after it with the Argos placing in the top three spots on the 1-meter boards. Freshman
Jade Fontenelle championed the women's platform with 286.40 points, followed by freshman
Olivia Nelson in second (270.85) as she earned a NCAA qualifying score, and graduate
Daniela Reyes rounded out the third spot with a score of 268.05. In the 3-meter competition, Fontenelle finished second with a score of 273.05 and Nelson in third (261.75).
Head diving coach
Barbara Parker had this to say, "Our ladies had a great meet today. They have worked hard to get their skills back up to a competitive level this week and it paid off. Not only did they place top three on 1-meter, Olivia became our 5th diver to make a national qualifying score."
"We are looking forward to returning to competition this Saturday for our next competition and to celebrate our seniors at their last meet at home," said Kraus.
The Argonauts will be competing later this week at the UWF Aquatic Center on Saturday, Jan. 7 for senior day against Birmingham-Southern, Montevallo, and Texas Permian Basin (divers only). The slated time is set for 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come out and support our seniors for their last home meet of the season.
