PENSACOLA, Fla. – LaTrell Tate led the UWF men's basketball team with 20 points in a 69-51 loss to Alabama Huntsville at the UWF Field House on Saturday.
UWF shot 31 percent from the floor but connected on 10 3-point field goals, including 8-of-16 in the second half. Tate had a career-high six triples, while
Jared DeHart and
Daniel Sofield had two each. Sofield finished with 10 points and
David Petit-Homme had seven points and a game-high eight rebounds.
UWF outrebounded UAH 36-31 and scored 10 second-chance points on 14 offensive rebounds.
UWF moved to 7-9 overall and 3-9 in Gulf South Conference play. UAH is now 14-4 this season and 9-3 in league action.
Both teams struggled to get their offenses going in the opening 12 minutes, with the Chargers holding a 14-12 lead. But UAH ended the half on a 24-12 run on the strength of 64 percent shooting, including making five 3-pointers with four during the late run.
Coming out of the intermission trailing 38-21, UWF produced a 15-5 run to pull within 43-36, making four-consecutive triples.
Two layups and a free throw from Petit-Homme trimmed the Argonauts' deficit to 49-41 with 11:11 to play. UAH responded with the next seven points and the lead stayed in double digits the remainder of the game.
Jack Kostel led the Chargers with 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and five steals.
UWF will return to play at Lee (10-3, 9-3) on Thursday night in Cleveland, Tennessee. Start time at Walker Arena is at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
