Argos Fall Short to Flames in Competitive Matchup

A Penalty Kick Decided the Match

This afternoon, the Argos faced a physical Lee University in Gulf Breeze. The Argos fell short as the Flames scored on a late penalty to give them the win. The game was hard fought with many opportunities for the Argos.

How It Happened

The match was one full of emotion and grit. From the blow of the first whistle, both teams worked hard to gain possession of the ball. As the game progressed, the Argos began taking momentum from the Flames as they got some early shots on goal. Keegan Ancelin led the Argos with a total of five shots on the day, and defender Fynn Geigle had three. 

In the first half of the match, the flames were given a total of four yellow cards. The yellow cards would continue being dealt for the rest of the match. 

A scoring opportunity would be immersed for the Argos early in the second half. In the 46th minute, after building from the back and putting Josiah Fontenot in scoring opportunity position, the senior native got fouled inside the box, resulting in a penalty. Jaime Guillén was granted the position to take the penalty, but his shot faded just left of the post and the score remained at 0-0. 

The Flames would soon be granted the same opportunity for a penalty kick. In the 55th minute, Eduardo Pampolini committed a foul as the Flame forward took a chance at goal, resulting in Marc Ehmann to be behind the ball. Ehmann completed his lower left shot, putting the Flames ahead 1-0. 

For the next 35 minutes, the Argos continued to push up the field. UWF was granted many scoring opportunities, but Lee goalkeeper Jakob Buhrkuhl was strong on his line. 

As the game continued, the tension grew. In just the 60th minute, Eduardo Pampolini was given his second yellow card of the match, resulting in a red card and the Argos with ten men on the field. A total of 11 yellow cards were handed out during the match, and two red cards. Kendrick Hernandez received his second yellow in the afternoon as the match got scrappy in the final minute of the game. 

Further Details

Despite the Argos outshooting the Flames 19-4, sometimes the ball does not find the back of the net.
