No. 22 UWF Pounce on Bulldogs in 2-0 Home Victory

GULF BREEZE, Fla. --- The University of West Florida gained a home win over Union, Sunday afternoon, to extend their record to 11-1-1 overall, 8-1 conference. The Argos are back on a roll for a four-game-win streak and remain at No. 2 in the Gulf South Conference standings.

UWF held majority possession in their attacking half through the beginning 20 minutes of play and out shot the Bulldogs, (6-6-1, 5-4 GSC) 7-1.

The duo of Emilie Dueck Doerkesen to Emma Beltz was strong as they combined for the opening goal in the 29th minute. Dueck Doerkesen dribbled down the sideline with pace into the box. After outrunning her defenders, she found Beltz in the middle who laid an easy tap in.

Beltz records six goals – second most on the team and tied for fifth most in the GSC with three conference opponents. Of the six goals scored by Beltz, Dueck Doerkesen has assisted in four.

The Argos extended the lead to 2-0 just before the halftime whistle.

Keeping composure in the Argos attacking half, UWF saw an opening and executed. Addison Smith saw Isabela Labovic out wide, unguarded. Labovic took a couple touches and hit a pass in the air towards the back post. Julia Comin connected with the pass on a diving header that was untouchable for the keeper.

In the final 45 minutes, the Argos out shot the Bulldogs, 8-2, but both sides ended scoreless.

Maciah Lipsey recorded two saves in her sixth shutout of the season.

The Argos get on the road for next week's conference contests at West Georgia and Valdosta State. Games will take place on Friday, Oct. 20 and Sunday, Oct. 22.
