PENSACOLA, Fla. – Jenna Zydlo led four players in hitting over .500 en route to a 3-0 UWF win over West Alabama at the UWF Field House on Tuesday night. The 15th-ranked Argonauts won with set scores of 25-8, 25-22, 22-9 for their ninth-consecutive victory.
Zydlo and Damyah Joyner had 10 kills apiece to lead UWF (12-4, 6-0 Gulf South) to a .448 night. Caiden Largent finished with eight winners while Avery Rodgers totaled seven kills and a solo block.
Izabelle Sanchez and Gabi Moulton combined for 29 assists. Meg Brackhan had 17 digs and Jacque Martin received 17 serves with zero errors.
UWF controlled the match from the outset, hitting .462 in the first set while West Alabama committed six attack errors. The Argos got out to an 8-2 lead before eventually rattling off nine-consecutive points, including the final six.
West Alabama raced out to a 12-9 lead in the second set before a UWF timeout. Out of the break, the Argos quickly tied it up with a Martin kill and two Tiger errors. The teams played side out ball for the next eight points before UWF seized control on a block by Rodgers and a pair of bad sets from UWA. The Argos closed out the frame with kills from Damyah Joyner and a UWA error.
The Argos were in total command in the third, hitting .560 with 17 kills on their way to a 25-9 win.
UWA (3-15, 1-5) hit .049 with 18 attack errors as it was held below .100 hitting for the 12th time in 18 matches.
UWF will continue its 5-match homestand this weekend, playing Alabama Huntsville and Montevallo. Friday's match with UAH is set to begin at 6 p.m. and it will be the Second Annual Silent Set Match.
