Argos Stamp Out Mississippi College on Pack it Pink Night

UWF Offense Takes Over in Sweep of Choctaws

PENSACOLA, Fla. - UWF volleyball (21-6, 13-0 GSC) celebrated its 16th annual Pack it Pink match in style as it wrapped up the occasion with a resounding sweep (25-19, 25-16, 25-20) of Mississippi College (9-14, 7-6 GSC) in a complete team effort at UWF Field House on Tuesday night.

The Argos dominated on the offensive side, tallying 43 kills on a .278 offensive percentage and holding the Choctaws to just 27 kills on a .117 output while actually committing one more error than the guests. West Florida outhit MC by .152 in the opening set, .252 in the second and .078 in the third, responding to the Choctaws' threats throughout. The former won every major statistical category except blocks and errors and held the conference leader in kills, Lydia Paulette, to just seven as she led her team in that area again.

Damyah Joyner was the lone player with double-digit kills in the match, racking up 15 on a .444 night, the second highest percentage mark after Jenna Zydlo hit .667 on six kills with no errors with two block assists. Emily Breazeale had the best performance of her young career, killing nine balls on a .421 outing to go with nine digs.

Bailee Sterling put up six kills with one solo block and one assisted. Annie Monaco had five kills, but truly made her mark on the defensive side and behind the service line as she contributed 13 digs and three aces, leading the team in both. Meg Brackhan put up seven digs and six assists. Gabi Moulton achieved her third career double-double with 31 assists and 13 scoops.

Both Moulton and Izabelle Sanchez logged an ace, with Sanchez's serving as the contest-clincher after a third set by UWF that, like the rest of the game, contained a flurry of kills, primarily from Joyner and Breazeale. The Choctaws led by as much as four in the contest with a first-set 6-2 lead that the Argos steadily chipped away at with sustained runs to take control early. The former also led early in the second period before UWF put together an 8-1 run consisting of scores from the same two, as well as a Monaco ace and a block split by Zydlo and Sterling.

The win gives the Blue and Green their second season sweep of 2023 after coming back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Choctaws in five in Clinton, Miss., just over a month ago. UWF had previously swept West Alabama in six total sets across the two matches, and it will go for its third GSC sweep of the season when it plays at Auburn Montgomery on Friday night and will fight to maintain its undefeated GSC record and its hold on the top seed.
