No. 21 UWF Shuts Out Montevallo in 2-0 Win

MONTEVALLO, Ala. --- No. 21 Argonauts gained their eighth victory of the season after defeating Montevallo, 2-0, on the road.
 
UWF improves to 8-1-1 overall and 5-1 GSC.
 
UWF-Falcons ended scoreless after the first 45 minutes of play. UWF outshot their opponent 9-1 but no opportunity fell through.
 
Heading back out to the field in the second half, UWF came out in full swing and attacked. In the 50th minute, UWF put pressure on Montevallo's back line and regained possession in their attacking third. The Argos quickly transitioned to offense and got a goal within two passes. Mya Swinton secured the ball and crossed it to Emilie Dueck Doerkensen in the box. Dueck Doerkensen brought the ball down to Emma Beltz who one touched the ball past the keeper.
 
This is Beltz's fifth goal in six games.
 
Isabela Labovic extended the lead to 2-0 in the 72nd minute to secure the win. Ahnalie Layman found Labovic in the box who outjumped her defender to head the ball in.
 
Layman's assist was her fourth total. She has the second most assists on the team behind Swinton. Labovic's goal was her third on the season.
 
Beltz, Dueck Doerkesen and Layman led the Argos with three shots apiece.
 
Maciah Lipsey had a season-high five saves and got her third shutout of the season.
 
The Argos head to AUM's home turf on Sunday, Oct. 8 to finish the weekend. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
