PENSACOLA, Fla. -
Brooke Kane scored 20 points and
Tyashia Bostick made a pair of clutch 3-pointers down the stretch as the UWF women's basketball team defeated No. 9 Eckerd, 77-67, at the UWF Field House on Saturday.
UWF (1-1) shot 46 percent in the game and was 10-of-22 from outside for 45 percent. The Argonauts also outrebounded the Tritons 40-33 and got 15 second-chance points off 13 offensive caroms.
Kane added a game-high seven rebounds while Bostick made five 3-pointers to finish with 15 points.Â
UWF started hot and stayed hot as they scored on their first four possessions to stake an 11-3 lead. The margin was extended to 23-10 lat ein the first on an
Ericka Wiseley layup.
The Tritons pulled within six four minutes into the second before the Argos got it back into double figures with a 6-0 run and went into the locker rooms up 40-28.
In the third, Eckerd made a push and actually trimmed the margin to seven 10 seconds into the final period. But UWF answered as it had all night thanks to a pair of free throws from Kane and a basket and free throw by
Jaden Langford. The Argos scored on nine of their next 12 possessions to maintain a healthy lead between 10 and 13 points.
Eckerd (1-1) shot 40 percent and was led offensively by Lauren Vieira with 26 points and Bella Green with 19.
The Argos will return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Mobile, Alabama to face Spring Hill. Tip-off at the Arthur R. Outland Recreation Center is set for 5:30 p.m.
