GSC CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
NCAA DIVISION 2 WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL REGIONAL RANKINGS
Â
PENSACOLA, Fla. - Ranked No. 17 in the national coaches poll and seventh in the NCAA DII South Regional rankings, UWF (23-7, 15-1 GSC) is back home at the UWF Field House as host of the GSC Championship after wrapping up its league-record 15th GSC regular season title, good for its eighth consecutive with at least a share and sixth consecutive outright. The Argos now look to win their 12th overall conference tournament championship and sixth in a row, as well as lock up an NCAA Tournament berth for the 17th straight season.
Â
The Argonauts are 30-8 all-time in the GSC Championship, winning it 11 times and making the finals 14 times with a 11-3 record. In clinching the top seed, this year is the eighth straight and 11th of the last 12 in which UWF has hosted.Â
Â
UWF has largely lived up to the expectations of being the standard-bearer for the conference as well as its status as the preseason favorite to win it. It has fluctuated throughout the teens of the AVCA Division II poll, as it began the season at No. 12 before falling to 3-4 after the Colorado Premier Challenge and then righting the ship in conference play. The Argos carry an 18-3 mark against South Region opponents into the postseason.
Â
The Blue and Green also wrapped up another regular season with multiple player awards by the GSC. Junior right side
Avery Rodgers was named GSC Player of the Year, while setter
Gabi Moulton won Freshman of the Year. Coach
Melissa Wolter was named Coach of the Year in the conference for the seventh time and the third year in a row in her 20th season at the helm of the Argos. Additionally, Rodgers earned First Team All-GSC votes, while graduate transfer middle hitter
Bailee Sterling, junior middle
Jenna Zydlo and junior libero
Meg Brackhan all placed on the Second Team. The tournament will be the final games at UWF Field House for the senior class, consisting of Sterling, setter
Stephanie Barber and outside hitters
Jacque Martin and
Alex Oliver.
Â
With the No. 1 seed, UWF has earned a double bye and will not play until the semifinals on Saturday, November 18, at 2 pm. The same goes for No. 2 seed Alabama Huntsville. The No. 5 and 6 seeds hosted and won the first round matchups on Tuesday, and Valdosta State and Mississippi College, respectively, advanced to the final site in Pensacola. UWF will take on the winner of Friday's second-round matchup between No. 4 Montevallo and VSU in the first semifinal game, and UAH plays the winner between No. 3 Auburn Montgomery and MC. The semifinal winners then advance to the finals to play for the championship on Sunday, Nov. 19th, at 1 pm.  Â
