UWF Falls To Lee, 66-62

The Argos outscored the Lady Flames 31-24 in the second half

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The UWF women's basketball team suffered a 66-62 loss at Lee in Walker Arena on Monday night.
 
UWF battled back from a 13-point deficit to tie the game with 2:45 left. After a pair of stops by both sides, Lee was awarded two technical foul free throws with 1:43 remaining to grab a 63-61 lead. The Argos cut it to one on a Claire Sutherland-Case free throw and then found themselves down by three with 20 seconds left after two more Lade Flames scores.
 
Tyashia Bostick had two looks to tie it in the final 13 seconds but both caromed off the rim.
 
UWF (4-2, 1-1 Gulf South) shot 38 percent and made just five 3-pointers in the game. Brooke Kane led the team with 15 points, while Bella Stone and Case both came off the bench to score 11 and 10, 10 respectively.
 
Lee (3-2, 2-0) also shot 38 percent and was led by Haylee Johnson's 18 points. Mallory Hampton added 17 on 5-of-20 shooting.
 
Lee came out as the aggressor in the opening minutes, scoring the first six points. After a pair of Kane free throws, the Lady Flames stretched their lead to 15-4. The Argos got within six at the quarter but struggled to keep Lee out of the paint.
 
Lee got six of their second quarter points in the paint as they pushed their lead back into double figures, taking a 42-31 lead into the locker room.
 
A lot of fouls were called on both sides in the third before the Argos closed the frame on an 8-4 run and pulled within 56-49. They continued to battle and tied the game at 61 on consecutive 3-pointers by Sutherland-Case and Stone.
 
That setup the emotional final 1:43.
 
UWF outrebounded Lee 35-30. The game featured 48 personal fouls and 32 in the second half.
 
UWF will return home for a 3-game homestand, beginning this Friday against Mississippi College. Tip-off at the UWF Field House is set for 5:30 p.m.
