UWF Locks Down Mississippi College For 82-51 Win

The Argos held the Choctaws to their second-lowest shooting game of the year

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's basketball team opened a 3-game home stand with a dominating defensive performance Friday, defeating Mississippi College, 82-51, at the UWF Field House.

UWF (5-2, 2-1 Gulf South) held the Choctaws to 29 percent shooting and forced them into 19 turnovers. The Argonauts finished with 15 points off those miscues and collected a season-high nine steals.

Jaden Langford led UWF with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Tyashia Bostic, Brooke Kane and Delaney Trushel poured in 12 each.

The Argos brought a physical toughness on the offensive end and finished with 25 free throws on 36 attempts – both season highs. UWF shot 42 percent from the floor.

UWF closed the first quarter with a pair of layups to stretch their lead to 18-12. The Argos battled foul trouble in the second period but found an offensive rhythm late as they outscored the Choctaw 22-14 as they took a 40-26 lead into the half.

The Argos continued to score from the charity stripe in the third, putting up 11 of their 21 points in the frame from the line. The fourth quarter saw the outside shooting come alive as UWF made 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.

MC (2-4, 1-2) got 15 points from Brett Gardner, who made all three of the team's 3-pointers. They were 3-for-16 from outside.

The Argos will return to play on Sunday afternoon when they host Delta State (3-4, 1-2). Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
