UWF Clinch Semifinal Match After Win Over Alabama Huntsville

The Argos Will Face Lee

Box Score

PENSACOLA, Fla -
The UWF Men's Soccer team faced off at home this afternoon in the GSC Championship Quarterfinal against Alabama Huntsville. The Argos, who previously came off a draw against the Chargers in their final match of regular season, created a new outcome as they defeated the Chargers today 4-1.

Scoring opened for the Argos as Second Team All GSC winner Caue Novaes found himself behind the ball for a free kick just outside the 18 yard box. Novaes struck the ball low and hard to find the right side of the net past the Chargers defensive wall and goalkeeper. Novaes's goal is just his second of the season.

After the Chargers' Wesley Atoyebi was ejected from the match after two yellow cards in the early minutes of the match, UAH played with ten players on the pitch for the remainder of the match. UAH matched scoring in the 39th minute as a penalty kick was awarded after a foul inside the box during a free kick.

With 45 minutes left of play, the Argos were looking for a breakthrough. They got their wish as Keegan Ancelin put the Argos ahead in the 64th minute after hustling and tracking down the ball in the final third to beat the last defender. Ancelin's right footed strike put the Argos ahead 2-1 with just over 25 minutes remaining.

As the time was winding down, the Argos continued managing the game. After earning a corner kick, sophomore Fynn Geigle ushered his teammates to get in the box for a scoring opportunity. His inswinger kick found the head of Keegan Ancelin, and the Argos increased their lead to two. Ancelin tallied his fourth goal of the season, and Geigle his eighth assist on the year.

UWF kept the ball rolling as Marcus Pereira found an opening on the outside of the 18 to increase the lead to 4-1 on the afternoon. The Notre Dame College transfer tallied his third goal of the 2023 season.

Following their victory, the Argos will face the Lee Flames on Friday, November 10th at 6pm for the GSC Championship Semifinals in Huntsville, Alabama at the John Hunt Park.
