Donor Spotlight: Dr. Wesley Farr

Introduction:

Dr. Farr is an avid sports fan and has been a member of the Argonaut Athletic Club since 2016. UWF and UWF Athletics sincerely appreciate his generosity. He has impacted many student-athletes here at the University. As always, Go Argos!

Why do you give to UWF Athletics?

I grew up in a college town where the athletic teams had a unifying effect on the community and the state. The UWF athletic program is very competitive and provides a tremendous boost to student recruitment.

Why do you continue to give annually?

UWF makes it easy to donate with its payroll deduction program. I am able to donate on a regular basis automatically.

The UWF student-athletes follow the traditional design of athletic scholarships by coming here to be students first. The scholarships help the student-athletes overcome the financial barriers and for some student-athletes, it provides the incentive to come to college when it may have been a viable option with athletics for some students.

The atmosphere at the football games has been very relaxing and enjoyable. The ArgoDillo race with the kids is a great way to get the youth involved with UWF and hopefully consider UWF for college.

What would you say is the best thing about being a donor to UWF athletics?

The reserve seats with seatbacks at Wahoo Stadium and now the on-campus stadium. I also watch some of my students perform on the playing field.

What makes you passionate about UWF Athletics?

One student-athlete came to my office with apprehension about doing well in one of my classes.  We discussed studying strategies and techniques, and the student-athlete did very well in the course.

Anything else you'd like to add? For instance, a proud moment as an Argo fan or an experience you enjoyed?

The proudest moment so far was when this student-athlete made the Senior Walk with family and friends before a game. However, the ultimate proudest moment will be when I get to take my grandchildren to an Argo game.
