PENSACOLA, Fla. – Riding a 4-game winning streak, the UWF Argonauts make the trip to west Tennessee this weekend to face Union on Thursday night and Christian Brothers on Saturday afternoon. The Argos are riding a 4-game winning streak and have moved into ninth place in the Gulf South Conference.
ABOUT UWF
* UWF is now 11-10 on the season and above .500 for the first time since the Christmas break when they were 7-5. The Blue & Green are 7-10 in the league where they have moved up three spots in the standings and are now in ninth place, a half game behind Mississippi College for eighth. The top eight teams in the 13-team league qualify for the GSC Championship.
* UWF is ninth in the GSC in scoring offense at 71.0 ppg and up to sixth in scoring defense at 70.3 ppg.
* UWF is shooting 43.8 percent from the field and is 10-5 when shooting at least 40 percent in a game, including in all four during the current win streak.
* The Argos have alternated making either single-digit or double-digit 3-pointers in the last seven games. From outside the 3-point line, the Argos are converting 34.8 pct.
* The Argos are averaging 32.6 rebounds per game and have outrebounded eight opponents this year - including four of their last seven.
UWF FREE THROW SHOOTING AMONG THE BEST UWF HISTORY
* UWF has made 75.2 percent of its free throws this season, the highest in any of
Jeff Burkhamer's eight seasons as the head coach. The school record is .764 in the 1969-70 season.
* The Argos rank fifth in the GSC and 53rd in the country. Additionally, the 14.9 FT made per game is third and 60th, respectively.

MATTHEWS NAMED GSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
* Forward
Wendell Matthews was named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday.
* Matthews was instrumental in UWF's win over West Georgia in the team's only game last week. The senior had 17 of his 24 in the second half and also grabbed eight rebounds in the Argonauts' fourth-consecutive victory. He made 8-of-12 from the floor against the first-place team in the league.
* The third-year Argo from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota is averaging 10.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He is shooting 50 percent from the floor and leads the team with 19 blocks and 21 steals.
TATE EMERGING AS A TOP SCORER IN THE GSC
* The move from point guard to more of a combo guard (splitting PG duties with
Jared DeHart) has benefited junior
LaTrell Tate more than anyone could have imagined. He is the team's leading scorer with 16.0 ppg (7th in the GSC) and has scored in double figures in 17 games, including 14 of 16 since the switch.
* For the season, he is shooting 80.6 pct. from the line, including 89.5 pct. (51-for-57) in the last 11 outings.
* In the last 17 contests, he is averaging 20.0 ppg with nine 20-plus point performances.
* Over New Year's weekend, the Marietta, Ga. native averaged 26.5 ppg in road contests at Montevallo and AUM. He had a career-high 37 in the game against the Falcons, which is the 23rd-highest in the country this season and the fourth most in a game in UWF history. Also had 16 two days later at AUM.
