UWF Shows No Love to the Badgers in Tuesday Night Game

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The University of West Florida baseball advances to 5-1 on the season after cruising through Spring Hill in an 8-3 win at Jim Spooner Field Tuesday night.

UWF scored in four straight innings and starting pitcher Major Posey had a no-hitter the first two frames. Posey earned the win for 2.0 IP. He had two strikeouts along with no hits or runs allowed. Reliever Jacob Estes was awarded the save.

Jack Bellah stepped on the mound for the first time this season and finished with one strikeout while having two hits and a run throughout his 3.0 IP.

Jackson Grabsky, Darrien McDowell and Preston Moore led with two hits and Jadon Fryman scored three of the eight runs. McDowell and Mike Scordo had two RBI apiece.

A total of three runs occurred in the first inning for UWF. Grabsky led off the batting and outran the throw and reached first base for a hit. Bailey earned an RBI after hitting a single out to left field to allow Grabsky to run the bases and advance home. Shortly after, McDowell hit a single threw the left side to give the Argos two more runs and get an early 3-0 lead.

Entering the second inning, catcher Scordo started off the batting for the Argos and reached first on a walk. He would later score the lone-inning run off a Grabsky hit.

In the third frame, three more runs happened all within three plays of each other. Before runs began, Fryman and McDowell walked, followed by each advancing a base off a wild pitch. With Fryman on third base and McDowell on second, the scoring then began. Preston Moore singled his way to the center field to give an easy run in for Fryman. The Badgers then attempted a pickoff but failed and McDowell scored the sixth run of the game. Scordo earned his first RBI of the season after hitting a double to right center for Moore to score and increase the lead to 7-1.

The last run scored for UWF was in the bottom of the fourth. Fryman reached base on a throwing error and later scored his third run of the night off a Scordo hit who earned his second RBI of the game.

UWF held the Badgers (1-4 overall) to three runs that were scored in the third, sixth, and eighth innings.

The Argos will play their final Sunshine State Conference opponent of the season in a three-game series this weekend at Jim Spooner Field. UWF will take on Florida Tech Friday (Feb. 17) at 5 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday (Feb. 18) at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
