UWF Pounce on Panthers in 16-2 Win

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- A ten-run inning in the seventh uplifts the University of West Florida baseball team to a solid game one, 16-2, win over Florida Tech Friday night.
 
Dalton Neuschwander earned himself another win in his third game appearance and Jack Bellah got his first save of the season. Neushwander finished with four strikeouts and faced 26 batters. In 7.0 IP, he allowed two runs. Bellah pitched the remaining 3.0 innings and had three strikeouts and only allowed one hit.
 
The Argos held the Panthers to five hits. Neushwander had a no-hitter in the first, third, fourth and sixth frame and Bellah held the Panthers to no hits in the final ninth inning.
 
Argos scored four runs in the first inning to get a quick lead on the Panthers. Lead off batter Jackson Grabsky reached to first on a fielding error. Up next, Trent Jeffcoat earned the first hit of the game and Grabsky ran to second from a single to right field. Two at bats later, Grabsky was sent home by a Jadon Fryman single and advanced Jeffcoat to second. With runners on second and third, Darrien McDowell hit his third homerun of the season and earned three RBI.
 
The Panthers followed with a homerun in the top of the second and would later earn their last run in the fifth frame.
 
Entering the third, Argos scored two more runs. Fryman hit a solo-homer to right field, his first of the season, and catcher Mike Scordo got a hit to send DH Tyler Dowdy home who reached base on a double to the outfield.
 
The remaining three innings were scoreless for the Argos. They entered the seventh inning with a 6-2 lead that would be increased by ten runs. The Argos went through fifteen batters and had nine hits. Four batters went through rotation twice in the inning – Preston Moore had two hits, Fryman was hit by pitch and singled, McDowell had two hits and two RBI and Bailey walked and hit a double in the bottom of the seventh to contribute to the ten-run inning.
 
Standouts Fryman finished with four runs, three hits and two RBI and McDowell earned three runs and hits each and concluded with five RBI.
 
The Argos and Panthers will conclude their three-game series in a doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 17 at Jim Spooner Field at noon and 3 p.m.
