PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's basketball team overcame a sluggish first quarter and then held off a late push from Auburn Montgomery for a 63-54 win in the Play4Kay game at the UWF Field House on Thursday.
UWF improved to 18-6 overall and established a school record for league victories, moving to 17-4 in Gulf South Conference play. The Argonauts are now 9-2 at home and ran their winning streak at the Field House to six games.
The teams were tied at 21 entering the half before UWF outscored AUM 28-11 in the third quarter. The Warhawks pulled within six with 2:03 to play but UWF scored four of the final five points to secure the fourth-straight win in the series.
Jaclyn Jarnot led all players with 25 points, 19 rebounds, five steals, two blocks and an assist, while
Jaden Langford and
Zoe Piller were also in double figures scoring with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
UWF shot 45 percent in the game after starting the contest making just 4-of-15, including missing its first six shots.
The Argos controlled the paint, outscoring the Warhawks 32-20 and using 15 offensive rebounds for 13 second chance points. AUM had 12 offensive boards but didn't score any on those opportunities.
Allasha Dudley led the Warhawks with 23 points on 9-of-21 shooting and Kamya Hollingshed added 12 with four 3-pointers.
AUM dropped its seventh-consecutive game and is now 7-19 overall and 6-16 in GSC action.
UWF will play its final regular-season home game on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Montevallo.
