UWF Takes Down Montevallo, 70-63

The Argos held the Falcons to 36 percent shooting

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Jaclyn Jarnot had 14 points and 15 rebounds to lead the UWF women's basketball team to a 70-63 Senior Day win over Montevallo at the UWF Field House on Saturday.

UWF (19-6, 18-4 Gulf South) shot 40 percent and improved to 10-2 at home this season. The Argonauts used strong second and third quarters to pull away, outscoring the Falcons 39-20 in those frames to lead 57-45 with 10 minutes remaining.

From there, they held off a late push from UM to celebrate the senior trio of Jarnot, Jennifer Andrew and Haylee Luttrell.

Claire Sutherland-Case scored 12 points off the bench as she appeared in her third game of the season. The transfer out of Hamilton, Ontario had missed the last 22 games with an injury before seeing the court for five minutes on Thursday and 12 on Saturday. She was 3-of-6 and made two 3-pointers with four rebounds against the Falcons.

UWF fell behind 25-10 late in the first quarter before scoring the last eight to pull within seven. Another 8-0 run to end the half swayed the momentum to UWF as they led 39-34 at the break.

UM (11-16, 11-12) shot 36 percent and was led by 12 points each from Marisa Snodgrass and Shyan Flack.

UWF will close the regular season at Alabama Huntsville on Thursday and West Alabama on Saturday, before hosting a GSC Championship Quarterfinal game on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
