LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The UWF men's basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 74-66 road loss to No. 23 West Alabama at Pruitt Gymnasium on Saturday.
UWF ended the season at 13-15 overall and 9-15 in Gulf South Conference play. The Argonauts shot 45 percent overall and were 7-of-18 from outside.
LaTrell Tate led the team with 16 points – 14 in the second half – while Dave Petit-Homme added 12 on 5-of-6 shooting.
The Argos used a 5-0 run midway through the first half to go ahead 19-16. Petit-Homme had a slam dunk and
Daniel Sofield drained a fast break three late in the period as UWF took a 36-32 lead into the locker room.
Dell Matthews opened the second period with a jumper before UWF took a 42-40 lead with an 8-2 run. Sofield scored UWF's next three points, putting the Argos up 43-42 with 12:13 to play. But then UWA scored the next seven to take the lead for good at 49-43.
The Argos pulled within four points twice but couldn't make it a one-possession game as the Tigers held on.
UWA (23-15, 18-5) ended up sharing the GSC regular-season title with Alabama Huntsville.
