ABOUT LAST WEEK
The Argonauts played better than their record in the first week of the season, falling in three close games before the offense blew up for 12 runs in the weekend finale.

UWF's staff pitched to a 1.22 ERA and Jeya Prasad picked up a shutout against Palm Beach Atlantic in the second half of the doubleheader with the Sailfish.

Hannah Harper and Madelyn Vasquez led the team offensively, as Harper hit a team-best .500 over the weekend. Vasquez led the team with three doubles and seven total bases, and each scored three times. Erin Moon and Jessica Ford, who had three RBIs, each had a pair of doubles.

SCOUTING FLORIDA TECH
This week's tournament hosts hold a 3-3 record after a busy weekend at the Gulf Shores Invitational. FT took wins over Montevallo, West Georgia, and Spring Hill on the weekend and fell to West Alabama, No. 4 AUM, and No. 5 North Georgia.

UWF holds an 8-5 all-time record against Florida Tech, picking up wins in each of the last five games and taking a 6-3 win in Cocoa, Florida, early last season.
Florida Tech was picked to finish seventh in the Sunshine State Conference preseason poll, returning several starters from last year's team that went 32-20. Chief among them is Cheyenne Nelson, who has led the Panthers in batting each of the last two years and hit .478 with three stolen bases to start the season last weekend.

SCOUTING TAMPA
Tampa was picked as the Sunshine State Conference preseason favorite, earning seven first-place votes from coaches around the league after winning the SSC title last season. The Spartans played just two games last weekend, run-ruling Ursuline twice by scores of 14-0 and 8-0.

There is some history between UWF and Tampa -- the all-time series is tied 11-11, but the teams haven't met since 2019 when West Florida took back-to-back one-run wins in the NCAA South Regional.

SCOUTING ROLLINS
West Florida has a 6-5 lead in the series with Rollins since 2004, having picked up wins in the last two matchups with the Tars.

Rollins was picked third in the SSC preseason poll, earning a first-place vote. The Tars swept the competition at the Gulf Shores Invitational, beating No. 4 AUM 9-4 and adding close wins with West Georgia and West Alabama.

Ashley Worrell is the ace for Rollins. A third team All-American and the SSC Pitcher of the Year last season, Worrell spun a 1.27 ERA in 2022. She got off to a strong start last weekend, as she earned the win over West Alabama, picked up a save against West Georgia, and put together a good start against No. 4 AUM. She has 12 strikeouts and 7 walks through her first 11.0 innings of the year.

SCOUTING EMBRY-RIDDLE
Embry-Riddle went 2-0 at last weekend's Flagler Invitational, beating Georgia Southwestern State and Flagler.

At 28-18 last season, ERAU made a trip to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history. The first, of course, came in 2018 when West Florida knocked the Eagles out of the tournament with a 4-1 victory.

Embry-Riddle returns six starters from last year's club, including all-conference selections Mahaliyah Sandridge and Lauren Latoria.

A GOOD WEEK FOR HANNAH HARPER
Freshman lefty Hannah Harper stood out in her first collegiate action over the weekend. The Mount Dora, Florida, native hit a team-best .500 and is tied with Madelyn Vasquez for the team lead in runs (3) and hits (4).

Harper also impressed in the circle, allowing just one run to Palm Beach Atlantic over six innings.

HOW ABOUT THIS PITCHING STAFF
The Argonaut pitching staff looked like a strength coming into the year, and Montana Young, Jeya Prasad, and Harper did not disappoint in Week 1.

The trio pitched to a 1.22 ERA that ranks second in the Gulf South Conference, and their .215 opponent batting average ranks third in the league.

Prasad holds a 0.64 ERA after two impressive starts, and Young was sharp against Barry on Friday, allowing only two runs over six innings.
