Argonauts Suffer Second Loss of the Season to No. 2 Saint Leo

The Argos are now 6-2 overall

VALDOSTA, Ga.- It was a tough day for the No. 18 West Florida men's tennis team as the Argos fall to top-ranked Saint Leo 7-0. The Argos fall to 6-2 overall with the Lions improving to 12-0.

The Lions won two of the three doubles matches to take the lone point.

Bernardo Costa and Sebastian Rondon fell from the No. 2 position 6-4 to Luis Iriarte and Ivan Marrero Curbelo. Albin Ekrenros and Adam Svensson dropped their match as a pair 6-3 as the No. 3. Tomas Descarrega and Facundo Bermejo were up 5-4 from the No. 1 position before ending the match due to the Lions securing the lone point.

West Florida could not come up with a point in singles to the Lions. Costa battled, but fell 7-5, 6-3 to Vincent Thiel from the No. 3 position. From the No. 2 position, Bermejo and Martin Soukal fought as two nationally ranked players would, the match went into a tiebreaker. Soukal would end up taking the victory 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 over Bermejo.

Descarrega dropped his match to top-ranked Marrero Curbelo as No. 1 6-4, 6-1.

From the bottom half of the lineup, Santiago Kearney fell in his match 6-3, 5-7 from the No. 4 position. Rondon's swept his first set 6-0, fell in the second 7-5, and ultimately fell 6-4 in the tiebreaker to Luis Iriarte. Mateo Martinez would unfortunately drop his match 6-2, 5-7 from the No. 5 position.

The Argos are back in action at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on Tuesday, March 14 against North Georgia. First set will begin at 10 a.m.
