PENSACOLA, Fla.- The West Florida women's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker 4-3 decision to No. 6 North Georgia at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
The Argos dip to 4-7 on the year, while the Nighthawks improve to 8-2.
How It Happened
Mayumi Saguchi and
Guadalupe Martinez claimed the victory 7-5 on court 3 against Valentina Ascarrunz and Ashley Moinard.
Carlota Verdu and
Aline Midori Da Silva could not outlast the Nighthawks with a 6-4 loss from the No. 2 position. It all came down to court 2 to decide the doubles point outcome,
Luiza Daud and
Nathalia Mossambani would end up falling in a tight match 6-4 to Angelina Linnikova and Svetlana Teterina.
Despite trailing 1-0 early, the Argos battled back in singles action, winning three out of the six singles matches.
Saguchi got the momentum going with as she defeated No. 50 Viktorie Wojcikova in three sets 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 as No. 1. Midori Da Silva won her match from the top of the lineup from the No. 3 position 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Verdu was unable to take down Johanna Lippert as she fell in the tiebreaker 2-6, 6-4, 2-6 from the No. 2 position.
Martinez's match would go into three sets from the No. 4 position as she won the first set 6-2, dropped the second 4-6, and ultimately dropping the tiebreaker 4-6. Jenns Svatos came up short in her match 6-3, 6-1 to Ashley Moinard as No. 5.
Daud secured her second victory of the match from the No. 6 position 0-6. 6-4, 7-5. The sophomore from São José dos Campos, Brazil improves to 7-1 overall and 5-1 from the No. 6 position.
Up Next: The Argos will be back on their home courts for a match against Angelo State on Friday morning at 10 a.m.
