ABOUT LAST WEEK
West Florida dealt with a tough week at Alabama Huntsville, falling to the Chargers in three games on the road.

But the week still had its high points -- Laurynn Boggs and Erin Moon each hit .500 in the series, while Moon's .833 slugging percentage led the team. Boggs scored a pair of runs, and Moon and Hannah Harper each had three RBIs. Moon now ranks third in the GSC in doubles (8).

SCOUTING MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE
Mississippi College will be UWF's second consecutive ranked opponent, as the Lady Choctaws entered the NFCA poll this week at No. 25 nationally.

Mississippi College ranks third nationally in slugging percentage (.681), scoring (8.4 runs per game), and batting average (.387), while they rank fourth in OBP (.464) and 10th in home runs (34).

Catcher McCall Lee is the top batter for MC, hitting .493 with 12 doubles and 5 home runs. Camryn Bailey has been the staff ace, with a 1.39 ERA over 75.2 innings and a 12-1 record.

ERIN MOON LATELY
It was a bit of a slow start for Erin Moon in the first six games of the year, but the sophomore has been as good as anyone since February 11.

In UWF's last 12 games, Moon has hit .429, leading the team in doubles (6), RBIs (9), and slugging (.600), while drawing four walks and not striking out once. She has also reached base in seven consecutive games with 5 multi-hit contests in her last 12 games.

A GOOD START FOR HANNAH HARPER
Hannah Harper has been on an absolute tear in her freshman season, batting a ridiculous .460 this year. Not surprisingly, that leads all freshmen in the GSC and is third in the league among all players. She also ranks fourth in the GSC in on-base percentage (.541) and leads UWF in walks.

The rookie was moved to the leadoff spot in the Delta State series and that move paid off -- Harper hit .545, leading the team in both hits and runs for the weekend.

MONTANA YOUNG IS IMPRESSIVE
Junior hurler Montana Young has been at her best early in this season, as she threw to a 1.31 ERA with a 4-0 record over a six-appearance stretch from February 11 through March 4.

She was as good as ever on March 4, as she struck out a career-high 10 Lady Statesmen on the way to her second shutout of the year. Young ranks among GSC leaders in ERA (2.98), opponent batting average (.260), innings pitched (49.1), strikeouts (36) and wins (4).

MADDIE TWO-BAGS
Madelyn Vasquez wrapped up a 12-game hitting streak over the weekend and is still hitting an impressive .407 for the year. The junior from nearby Milton HS leads UWF in runs (16), hits (24), doubles (8), RBIs (9), total bases (36), slugging (.610), and stolen bases (6).

That's more of the same for Vasquez, who was an All-GSC and All-South Region pick last season, after hitting 11 home runs and ranking second among UWF players with a .604 slugging percentage, 9 doubles, and 24 walks.

RISP-Y BUSINESS
UWF has done well with runners in scoring position this year, hitting .312 as a team. A few standouts have been Madelyn Vasquez (8-for-19; .421), Chelsea Dumas (6-for-12; .500), and Hannah Harper, who leads the team in hits (9) and batting average (.529) with runners in scoring position.
