PENSACOLA, Fla. --- A close game did not go in favor of UWF and they move to 13-13 on the season. The Argos took a 2-1 loss to #9 Columbus State in a non-conference home game Wednesday afternoon.
The Argos outhit the Cougars 6-5 and
Mike Scordo led the group with two hits. Starting pitcher
Salvatore Ferro allowed no hits in three of the five innings pitched. He finished with three strikeouts.
Scordo's first at bat in the second inning was an RBI single that drove
Jadon Fryman in. Fryman reached base on a fielder's choice.
UWF held onto the lead till the sixth frame. Kirley led off the inning with a single. As bases began to load, Connor Kirley scored due to Derek Wylie being hit by a pitch. The next at bat was a ground out but gave an opportunity for the Cougars to score their second run of the game and take the lead.
The Argos closest opportunity to score came in the bottom of the sixth. A runner was on third but a final out prevented a tie game.
The Cougars almost extended the lead but the Argos defense was prime. Only one hit was allowed but UWF was in trouble with loaded bases. Matthew McDade rocketed a hit right at
Preston Moore who came up big with the unassisted out.
The Cougars were held to zero hits in the final two innings but the Argos could not capitalize on the offense.
