UWF Wins Twinbill in Georgia

ROME, Ga. --- The University of West Florida baseball team regains a winning record after defeating Shorter in two conference games on the road.
 
The Argos (15-13 overall, 7-7 GSC) hit three homeruns out of the park in Friday's doubleheader.
 
Starting pitchers Dalton Neuschwander (5-0) and Kade Manderscheid (3-1) each pitched a complete game. In Neuschwander's nine inning performance, he struck out three batters and allowed only five hits. In the following seven inning game, Manderscheid tied his single game high of seven strikeouts. In 28 batters faced, he allowed just one run on six hits and walked one batter.
 
Dean Hotz led off the second inning with a single. Hotz was driven in by a sacrifice fly from Trent Jeffcoat to get the first run of the game.
 
Shorter (14-14 overall, 9-9 GSC) took the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the third off a two RBI homerun.
 
The Argos tied the game at two-all in the fifth inning by another sacrifice fly. Jeffcoat scored and Mark Townsend earned the RBI.
 
UWF continued to punch in runs. Townsend hit a two RBI single in the sixth to get their second lead of the game at 4-2.
 
The lead was extended 8-2 after the eighth inning. True Fontenot hit an RBI double to left field. Fontenot went 1-3, was walked and scored two runs to conclude the game. Townsend capped the scoring with a three-run homer. This was his first homerun of the season. He finished with a stellar six RBI in two hits.
 
The Argos finished with one run on two hits in the ninth inning to take the win 9-2.
 
The momentum transferred to game two. Darrien McDowell had the first hit in the top of inning one and it was a homer. McDowell leads the team with six homeruns on the season.
 
The Hawks tied the game in the first but UWF scored two runs apiece in the fourth and seventh frame to outshine Shorter.
 
Jadon Fryman shot an RBI double to left field. Fryman was driven in by the third and final homerun of the day by designated hitter, Jackson Grabsky

McDowell and Fryman tallied an RBI each in the seventh inning and found a 7-1 win. McDowell sits in the top-10 RBI leaderboard in the conference at 31.
 
The two teams will play the series finale tomorrow, March 24 at Noon ET. UWF will be looking to take their first sweep of the season.
