Box Score Rome, Ga. --- The University of West Florida baseball team got their first sweep of the season against the Shorter Hawks on the road in a conference matchup. After winning the doubleheader on Friday, the Argos took the series finale, 13-5, Saturday afternoon.

The Argos (16-13 overall, 8-7 GSC) scored nine of 13 runs in their final two offensive appearances.

A 4-0 lead was in favor of the Argos through the top of the sixth inning. The Hawks (14-15 overall, 8-10 GSC) hashed out five consecutive runs that included a two-run homer and saw a 5-4 lead heading into the eighth.

UWF quickly regained control in the top half of the eighth.
Dean Hotz entered the game for the first time as a pinch hitter and was walked.
Trent Jeffcoat followed with a single. They both saw themselves to score the go-ahead runs on a
Mark Townsend single. This was Townsend's eighth RBI of the weekend.

The Argos extended their one-run lead into eight in their final offensive take. UWF went through the batting order and more and forced the Hawks to rotate through five closers.

The Argos went through seven batters before getting an out in the ninth inning.
Jadon Fryman led off with a double. Fryman finished with two hits, which both came in the final frame. Scordo drove Fryman in on an outfield single. Two runs were scored off three back-to-back-to-back walks. Now in a 9-5 advantage with bases loaded,
Darrien McDowell shot a two RBI double. McDowell went 2-4 and finished with three RBI. His previous hit was a solo homerun in the fifth inning. That was his second homerun of the weekend.

Sitting pretty at an 11-5 lead, the Argos tallied in two more runs to finish the top half of the ninth at 13-5.

Salvatore Ferro was on the mound to close for the Argos and started the inning with a strikeout. Previously, Ferro entered in the seventh inning. He pitched 2.1 innings and finished with three strikeouts. Â

The Hawks saw some light as they hit back-to-back homeruns to close the gap 13-8.

The Argos defense allowed one more hit before ending the game on a double play.

Jeffcoat led the way with three hits and two RBI. Four Argonauts finished with two hits apiece.

UWF will head back home to Jim Spooner Field and take on the current five-ranked Montevallo Falcons in a three-game series. Contest will begin Friday, March 31 at 5:00 p.m.
