PENSACOLA, Fla.- It another great day at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex as the No. 7 West Florida men's tennis team dominated XULA 6-1 on Saturday for senior day.
With today's win, the Argos improve to 12-2 and stretch their at home win streak to seven.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UWF dominated in doubles with wins from two positions.
Tomas Descarrega and
Facundo Bermejo were the first to finish with a 6-2 win from the No. 1 position.
Albin Ekenros and Adam Svennson dropped their match 6-3 to Julius Hell and Mathieu Strass as the No. 2 pair.
It all came down to
Bernardo Costa and
Enzo Bomfim Silveira to clinch the doubles point. The pair won in a tiebreaker 7-6 (9-7) to secure the lone doubles point.
In between singles and doubles, head coach
Derrick Racine and his coaching staff honored the seniors including seniors
Facundo Bermejo,
Tomas Descarrega,
Enzo Bomfim Silveira,
Adam Svensson, and
Bernardo Costa.
The momentum from doubles carried over to singles. Bermejo dominated his match 6-4, 6-3 in No. 3 singles. Descarrega was victorious 6-4, 6-4 from the No. 1 position over Jacobi Bain.
Costa dropped his match 7-5, 6-0 from the No. 3 position.
From the bottom half of the lineup,
Sebastian Rondon won his match due to retirement by the Golden Nuggets player. Rondon was ahead 4-0 in the second set before the match concluded.
Joaquin Estevez and Silveira won their match from the No. 5 and No. 6 singles to clinch the match for the Argos. Estevez came up with the win 6-1, 6-1 from the No. 5 position while Silveira won 6-1, 4-6, 10-4 as No. 6.
Up Next: The Argos will be back next Saturday for their last home match of the season against GSC opponent Mississippi College. The match is set for 2:00 p.m.
