PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The University of West Florida baseball team dropped a conference series opener to No. 14 Montevallo, on Friday night at Jim Spooner Field.

The team sat together at 3-3 but a late run in the top of the ninth sealed the deal for the Falcons. The frame opened with an error that allowed the batter to reach base. Shortly after, he was driven home by an outfield RBI single that secured the win. Â

The Argos took a quick 2-0 lead in the opening inning.
Preston Moore shot a two RBI double that drove
Darrien McDowell and
Mark Townsend home. McDowell finished with a run and three walks. Townsend went 1-for-3 and was walked.

Moore led the group with two of the team's six hits.

It took till the sixth inning for the Falcons to score. Montevallo scored on a two-out error that allowed two runs in for Montevallo.

UWF quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth after Moore scored on a wild pitch.

The Falcons answered with a tie-game single to even the score, 3-3.

To start the ninth, the Falcons reached on an error. The runner advanced into scoring position on stolen base before finding the game-winning run.

The Argos and Falcons meet back up in a doubleheader tomorrow, April 1 at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to conclude the three-game series.
