UWF Takes Doubleheader Over AUM

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The University of West Florida baseball team has extended to an eight-game win streak after defeating AUM in Friday's doubleheader at home.
 
The two wins secured the series while jumping to number one in the GSC standings.
 
GAME 1: UWF 4, AUM 3
UWF (24-14, 15-8 GSC) was outhit 6-2 but the team's sacrifice hits won the game.
 
The Argos found themselves in a good spot with loaded bases on no outs. Mark Townsend got the first RBI of the game after reaching on a fielder's choice. Despite an out occurring on the play, a run came through to get a 1-0 lead. True Fontenot followed with a sacrifice bunt that allowed another run to be added. Trent Jeffcoat capped the scoring with an RBI single to send Townsend in and extend the lead to 3-0.
 
The Warhawks (17-24, 10-13 GSC) closed the gap in the top of the fourth. Two wild pitches occurred in the inning that gave AUM the opportunity to score.
 
UWF took back the three-run lead in the bottom of the eighth after a Jadon Fryman sacrifice fly to center field.
 
The Warhawks put two runs on the board in the top of the ninth off outfield sacrifice flies. Chase Wilkerson entered to close for the Argos and got the third out before AUM could tie the game.
 
Dalton Neuschwander remains undefeated and improves to 7-0 on the season. He allowed one run on four hits in 8.0 innings pitched and threw five strikeouts.
 
GAME 2: UWF 3, AUM 0
Mike Scordo got the ball rolling in the bottom half of the fourth inning. He hit his second homerun of the season that gave the Argos a 2-0 lead. His homer sent in Preston Moore who was walked.
 
Jackson Grabsky hit a ground out but it allowed Darrien McDowell to score the insurance run and take the win 3-0.
 
The teams had four hits apiece in the seven innings played.
 
Kade Manderscheid pitched his fourth complete game in a row and finished with four strikeouts. This was his third shutout of the season.
 
Six players contributed to the Argos six total hits.
 
The teams will play the series finale tomorrow at 10:00 am. The game has been pushed up to beat the potential afternoon rain.
