CLEAR BAG POLICY
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida will host West Alabama for a Gulf South Conference series this weekend at the UWF Softball Complex. The series begins with a doubleheader at 1 pm on Saturday, before the series concludes with a single game on Sunday at 1 pm.
The university is also hosting UWF's Day of Play on Saturday, as a part of UWF Founders Week. There will be yard games, tie-dye shirt stations, shaved ice from BAM! Snoballs, and more. Admission will be free on Saturday, and tie-dye shirts and snowcones will be free while supplies last.
Saturday will also be Military Appreciation Day, and Sunday will be Senior Day for West Florida, as the Argonauts recognize four seniors in this year's class.
Publix will be sponsoring the weekend, and UWF will hold Publix Go Blue, Think Green day on Saturday as well.

CLEAR BAG POLICY
UWF has implemented a Clear Bag Policy for the 2023 home baseball and softball seasons. The clear bag policy is similar to the one enacted at Pen Air Field during the 2022 football season and will allow fans to enter the facilities on game day to stay consistent with other game day policies across all UWF athletic facilities.
Each ticket holder is allowed one large clear bag such as a one-gallon Ziploc style bag or clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag that does not exceed 12" by 6" by 12". Fans are encouraged to bring ONLY necessary items to games at Jim Spooner Field and the UWF Softball Complex. Standard small clutch purses are allowed but cannot exceed 4.5 x 6.5 inches in size. Small diaper bags will also be allowed. All subjects and items are subject to search.

ABOUT LAST WEEK
West Florida went 1-2 against AUM last weekend, with a walkoff win in the series finale on Saturday.
Kayla Mayo hit .500 and she and
Hannah Harper led the team with 4 hits apiece, and Mayo was the game-winner with an RBI single in the seventh inning on Saturday. She also had a team-best three RBIs, and
Alayna Lowery led UWF with a 1.05 ERA in the circle over 6.2 innings.
SCOUTING WEST AL
West Alabama is in the middle of a very strong season, ranked No. 22 in the country at 31-10. West Al leads the conference with a 2.79 ERA and 144 stolen bases this year.
The Tigers hit for good power, and the team's 71 home runs are the second-most in the GSC. LP Trammell (18) and Ann Marie Stanbridge (17) rank second and third in the conference in homers. On the opposite end of the offense, catcher Kelsie Gilliam leads the GSC with 46 stolen bases.
Madison Wright has been the team's ace, ranking in the top four in the GSC in ERA (2.32), opponent batting average (.183), innings pitched (145), strikeouts (147), and wins (18).
THE SENIOR CLASS
UWF celebrates Senior Day on Sunday and will recognize the careers of
Laurynn Boggs,
Kelsey Hodges,
Kayla Mayo, and
Kayanna Perez. The group has helped lead the Argonauts to 98 wins over the last four seasons, including a trip to the NCAA South Regional in 2021.
Laurynn Boggs has made 55 starts in her West Florida career and is a career .301 hitter. She has been one of the best outfielders in the conference this season, with a strong arm and great reads in center field.
Kelsey Hodges is in the middle of a career year with West Florida. The senior is hitting a remarkable .482 in Gulf South Conference play this year, and she has been a force in the middle of the Argonaut lineup this season.
Kayla Mayo has been a four-year starter for the Argonauts all around the infield. Kayla is one of the premier defenders in the GSC, and she has come through with clutch hits in each of her four seasons at UWF as well.
Kayanna Perez has played in 90 games and made 66 starts for UWF over the last three seasons. She earned a place on the NCAA South Regional All-Tournament team in 2021, leading UWF to an appearance in the Regional Final, where she hit .333 with two multi-hit games.
AROUND THE LEAGUE
West Florida has several student-athletes near the top of the statistical leaderboards in the GSC overall, but many Argonauts have shone in conference play.
Hannah Harper (.487) and
Kelsey Hodges (.482) are the top two hitters in GSC play this season, and Harper's .560 on-base percentage is also tops in conference action.
Madelyn Vasquez leads the league with 10 doubles in GSC games, and
Erin Moon's 9 doubles rank second, while Harper's 37 hits are also second in the league.
