MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The No. 2 seed West Florida men's tennis team took down No. 7 seed Montevallo 5-0 to advance to the GSC Semifinals.
The Argos improve to 15-3 overall while the Falcons drop to 8-10 on the season.

West Florida will face No. 2 seed Auburn Montgomery on Friday, April 21 for the GSC semifinals. Friday's contest is slated for 2:30 p.m. at Lagoon Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED

It was all UWF from the start with two wins in doubles. Tomas Descarrega and Facundo Bermejo won their match 6-4 over Fabricio Sosa and Phillipe Zehender from the No. 1 position.

Bernardo Costa and Sebastian Rondon swept their opponent 6-0 as the No. 2 doubles team.

Adam Svennson and Albin Ekenros's match went unfinished due to the Argos securing the lone doubles point.

"The guys played very focused today and played very well. We were super aggressive, which is what we have been working on the last few weeks and it showed today as number two doubles swept them 6-0. Tomas and Facundo once again came through as they have all season with a 6-4 victory at #1 to secure the doubles point," said head coach Derrick Racine.

In singles, Bermejo dominated his match as he won 6-0, 6-0 from the No. 2 position. He is 13-3 in singles this season.

Descarrega's match went unfinished due to the Argos securing the victory. He won the first set 6-2 and was trailing the second 2-1. Costa was victorious in his match with a two-set win 6-1, 6-1 from the No. 3 singles.

From the bottom half of the lineup, Rondon grabbed another singles win for the Argos 6-1, 6-4 as the No. 5. Santiago Kearney was up in the first set 5-3 when the match concluded from the No. 4 position.

Joaquin Estevez won his match 6-0, 6-1 to clinch the match for the Argos.

"In singles, the guys neared down and played virtually flawlessly, and we captured No. 5 singles to clinch the victory 5-0," commented Racine.
