VALDOSTA, Ga. --- The University of West Florida baseball team took Saturday's opening doubleheader, 13-7, on the road against Valdosta State. The Argos were trailing 5-3 in the top of the fourth in the series finale before the game was suspended due to rain.

The win allowed the Argos to be named Gulf South Conference regular season champs. This is UWF's seventh GSC regular season title and third in the last eight years.

UWF went on a 6-0 run in the first four frames. Preston Moore earned an RBI in the first and the second inning and scored a run. Four different players recorded an RBI throughout the innings that contributed to the runs.

Up 6-2, Trent Jeffcoat led off the sixth inning with an outfield single. He advanced to second on the next at bat and Dean Hotz reached first on a fielder's choice. Moore drove Jeffcoat in on an RBI single. Hotz made his way home unearned by a Blazer error.

The Argos kept the momentum going in the seventh inning and scored three runs on three hits. Jeffcoat hit an RBI sacrifice fly. Darrien McDowell followed with a two-run homer. This is his 10th homerun of the season.

The Blazers went on a four-run inning to close the Argo gap 11-6.
