VALDOSTA, Ga. --- The University of West Florida baseball team are the Gulf South Conference regular season champions after taking a third win over Valdosta State on Sunday. Three full innings were played yesterday but was unable to complete the game due to weather.

The Argos (32-14, 22-8 GSC) entered today trailing 5-3, but kept the Blazers (30-15, 18-12 GSC) scoreless in the remining four innings while putting five runs on the board to take the win, 8-5.

In Saturday's play, UWF quickly saw themselves down 3-0 after the first inning but the Blazers lead didn't last long. In the second inning,
Mike Scordo and
Jackson Grabsky hit a single to get on base.
Josh Prizina stepped up to the plate and sailed a homerun to left center that drove three runs in.

Valdosta State answered with two runs in the bottom of the third to take back the lead 5-3.

The top of the fourth inning began just before the rain hit.
Jadon Fryman hit a double and advanced to third off a Prizina single.

Now playing on a new day, with runners on first and third,
True Fontenot was up to bat. He hit a sacrifice fly that drove Fryman in to get the momentum going on Sunday morning. The Argos took their first lead off the game after a
Dean Hotz RBI double. Hotz finished with two RBI and went 3-for-4 at the plate.

UWF extended the lead in the top of the seventh and put up two more runs by a Prizina two RBI double. Prizina hit 3-for-4, totaled five RBI and scored two runs in the series finale.

The Argos outhit the Blazers 15-8 and held their opponents to just one hit in the final four innings.

Salvatore Ferro made his second appearance of the weekend and got the win after a stellar performance on the mound. In four innings pitched, he allowed no runs on one hit and threw a season high, six strikeouts. Ferro improves to 4-2 on the season.

The Argos are the one-seed in the GSC Tournament that begins Thursday, May 4 at Oxford, Alabama. They will take on the eight-seed, Delta State, Friday, May 5. Time TBD. Â
