Argos Secure Series Win Over #17 West Georgia After Winning Twin Bill

UWF will look to achieve their second sweep tomorrow at Noon ET

CARROLLTON, Ga. --- UWF baseball got their third series win over a top-25 team after taking the doubleheader over #17 West Georgia on the road, Thursday afternoon.
 
The Argos (21-14 overall, 12-8 GSC) hit a combined 25 hits over the two games. Trent Jeffcoat, Darrien McDowell and Mike Scordo led the team with five hits each.
 
GAME 1: UWF 8, UWG 5
The Argos got their first lead of the day in the top of the second. With back-to-back singles from Jackson Grabksy and Scordo, along with a West Georgia (25-10 overall, 13-7 GSC) error, Grabsky was able to drive in and see themselves up 1-0.
 
Jeffcoat led off the third inning with a single. After stealing second base, McDowell hit an RBI double to drive Jeffcoat in. Jeffcoat is 13-13 in stolen base attempts. Dean Hotz followed with a bun that resulted in an RBI single. Hotz scored the fourth run of the game by a single from Jadon Fryman.
 
UWF continued to pounce and scored three innings in a row. Jeffcoat hit a two RBI double that extended the lead, 6-0 to finish the fourth frame.
 
It took until the top of the sixth for the Wolves to get on the board. They threatened the Argos with five runs in seven hits to bridge the gap, 6-5.
 
The Argos finished the game with two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to take an 8-5 win. Hotz hit an RBI double followed by an RBI single by Preston Moore.
 
Dalton Neuschwander improves to 6-0 on the season after getting the win in 5.1 innings pitched. He threw four strikeouts and walked one batter. Neuschwander is tied for the second most wins in the conference.
 
Chase Wilkerson pitched the ninth inning and got his sixth save of the season.
 
GAME 2: UWF 9, UWG 1
McDowell brought heat in the second at bat of the game and delivered with a two-run homer. He drove Jeffcoat along who led off with a single.
 
The Argos rallied out five runs in the third inning while keeping the Wolves scoreless. Moore and Grabsky each hit RBI singles. The inning led to loaded bases. Scordo was walked to earn an RBI, followed by Fryman scoring on a wild pitch. Jacob Bailey capped the frame with a sacrifice fly to drive Grabsky in and take a 7-0 lead.
 
West Georgia got their one and only run in the bottom half of the fourth off a solo homerun.
 
Bailey had success in his next at bat, which was an RBI double. Bailey was sent home by Jeffcoat's single that gave the team a 9-1 advantage.
 
UWF held the Wolves to no hits in the final two innings.
 
Kade Manderscheid pitched his third complete seven-inning game and got the win. He is now 5-1 on the season and leads the team with a 1.92 ERA – second best in the GSC.
 
UWF and UWG will play the series finale tomorrow, April 7 at Noon ET. The Argos will look to take their second sweep of the season.
