UWF Takes Season Opener Win Over Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. --- The University of West Florida women's soccer team takes the season opener win over Eckerd, 3-1. The team was led by Mya Swinton who took five shots, three which came on goal.

The Argos outshot the Tritons 16-6 and held their opponents to four shots on goal.

Coming down from a 1-0 deficit, Ahnalie Layman found Swinton who fired a shot to bring the score to one all in the 36th minute. The Argos then found their groove as Julia Comin hit the back of the net just four minutes later to give UWF their first lead of the game. The goal was an impressive team effort and was awarded a double assist to Swinton and defender, Kendall Blackmon.

30 seconds before the conclusion of the first half, redshirt senior Manami Okada, soared a shot to the top corner to extend the lead, 3-1.

In the second half, the Argos continued to remain in their attacking half and took four shots on goal, none of which fell through.

Maciah Lipsey recorded three saves in Friday night's performance.

Defender Makayla Parkes made her return after a year long injury and played all minutes on the pitch. Four Argo players join Parkes in playing a full 90 minutes.

Six players saw time on the field for the first time as an Argonaut. Three of which were true freshman who made their first career appearances.

The Argos continue on the road to Lakeland, Fla. and will take on Florida Southern Sunday, Sept. 3 at 11 am ET/10am CT at Berend Field.
