CLINTON, Miss - The Argonauts traveled to Clinton, Mississippi to kick start their GSC Season. UWF faced Mississippi College in their opening conference play match.Â
Â
The first half would end with a 0-0 overall score with many opportunities coming the Argos way. UWF was awarded with multiple direct kicks around the outside of the 18-yard box, but the Choctaws defense would remain strong.Â
Â
Scoring would begin when the Argos were given a free kick, but instead of it ending in the back of the Choctaws, MC quickly cleared the ball and began a counter attack down the left side of the flank heading to the Argo's goal. A high and right shot in the 55th minute by Kento Tani put the Choctaws up 1-0 with just 35 minutes remaining in the match.Â
Â
With just seven minutes remaining, Tom Preston sent a ball into the box in hopes for a teammate to be there, and Jack Patching was. Patching, the goal-scorer of the game-winning goal against Saint Leo, connected with Preston with a strong header to put the ball in the back of the net.Â
Â
The match remained physical and demanding on both sides, with four yellow cards being given to both teams in the match. The match was back and forth for the entirety with the Argos for 10 shots and the Choctaws with 14.Â
